Bill comments... Surely one of the best examples of a trysting song where the testing of the lass nearly ends in tears saved only at the last moment by the lad declaring his undying love.

Great video, brilliant pipes playing! I'm english but I'm reading up on Flower of Scotland. What a loss to die at 54! I only wish England could have the same generous spirit of the scots. Not a fan of the independence idea, the loss would be too great to our islands, but it's none of my business. I can understand why Roy couldn't sing Flower of Scotland in the end, it is so visceral and moving.
This song will always remind me of Valerie Anne MacLeod….beautiful ❤
Words by Matt McGinn.
Gosh can't remember when I last heard that song. Nice one cheers 🥂
I was there 1977, on the rig and area 6
Oop periscope!!
I enjoyed attending the Corrie's performance at my school back in 1984! Two of the most talented men Scotland ever produced!🏴 Posted by Michael McCall.😃☺️
Ouch, poor version of this classic
Breaks my heart each and every time I hear this. Too close to my own loss of love. Exquisite.
Beautiful, just beautiful. I have just spent 6 days on islay at age 65 and life will never be the same again. Pure paradise.
been in and out the hospitol myself corries always kept me true i wish i could meet ron ;)#
Dear Sir I Write This Note To You To Tell You Of My Plight For At The Time Of Writing It I'm Not A Pretty Sight My Body Is All Black And Blue, My Face A Deathly Grey And I Write This Note To Say Why I Am Not At Work Today Whilst Working On The 14th Floor Some Bricks I Had To Clear But Tossing Them Down From Such A Hight Was Not A Good Idea The Foreman Wasn't Very Pleased He Is An Awkward Sod And He Said I Had To Cart Them Down The Ladders In Me Hod Now Clearing All These Bricks By Hand It Was So Very Slow So I Hoisted Up A barrel And Secured A Rope Below But In Me Haste To Do The Job, I Was Too Blind To See That A barrel Full Of Building Bricks Was Heavier Than Me And So When I Untied The Rope The barrel Fell Like Lead And Clinging Tightly To The Rope I Started Up Instead I Shot Up Like A Rocket, And To My Dismay I Found That Halfway Up I Met The Bloody barrel Coming Down Well The barrel Broke Me Shoulder As To The Ground It Sped And When I Reached The Top I Banged The Pulley With Me Head But I Clung On Tightly Numb With Shock From This Almighty Blow While The Barrel Spilled Out Half Its Bricks Some 14 Floors Below Well When These Bricks Had Fallen From The barrel To The Floor I Then Outweighed The barrel And So Started Down Once More As I Clung On Tightly To The Rope My Body Racked With Pain And Halfway Down I Met The Bloody barrel Once Again Now The Force Of This Collision Halfway Down The Office Block Caused Multiple Abrasions And A Nasty Case Of Shock But I Clung On Tightly To The Rope As I Fell Towards The Ground And I Landed On The Broken Bricks The barrel Had Scattered Round. Now As I Lay There On The Ground I Thought I'd Passed The Worst But The Barrel Hit The Pulley Wheel And Then The Bottom Burst A Shower Of Bricks Rained Down On Me I Didn't Have A Hope As I Lay There Bleeding On The Ground I Let Go The Bloody Rope The barrel Now Being Heavier So Started Down Once More It Landed Right Across Me As I Lay There On The Floor It Broke 3 ribs And My Left Arm And I Can Only Say I Hope You`ll Understand Why I Am Not At Work Today

❤So Beautiful❤
The same melody as Birmingham Sunday. Just as haunting.
In which of your songs do you sing to your deceased friend and fellow Corrie’s member?
"I let go of the bloody rope" - a wise choice, mate!
A comedy of errors, if ever I heard one! 😂
Ok I don't want to make anyone mad but this is the first time I've ever heard of him......
I discoverd the Corries 40+ years ago, and am still listening. This is one of my favorites.
Love this song
The best version of this song is by Big Country. There was terrible slaughter at Killiecrankie in the Highland Charge on King Williams' army and the Big Country version captures the fury of the action.
As a Folk group we supported the Corries 60 years ago in what was the Playhouse Cinema in Fort William. We were called The Nevis Folk Four. Happy days.
This is 2024 and I greet, what a brilliant pair,
I am greeting!
This makes me want to go to Nantucket and enjoy a fresh lunch of fine seafood
There's n'er been a more poignant, more heartfelt curse than that sung on those last four lines...
The original was a monologue to the Oxford Union by Gerald Hoffnung.
Lovely. Reminds me of an old friend who used to sing it. He too was a man you don't meet every day.
Hopefully 'The Need' will depart soon ! Lovely song.
I think Paddie sounds like a Disney princess from the early movies. She never quite meshes with the men. She does have a high soprano voice.
Love these
I loved him ❤️
Heart healing!!! Greetings from Hellas.
Stupid people will tell you that Galloway isn't "proper Scotland". How stupid is that? Do we say that Yorkshire isn't "proper England" because it isn't Nelson's Column, Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament? Stupid, Stupid, stupid.
The beautiful thing about these two is they sang songs that brought memories back to the listeners.
Beautiful song.
Wonderful song.. thank you for upload.., very special❤
Roy was such a talented musician. He play several instruments. I read he even invented one or two. No one can come close to these two. Folk music lost much.
Fantastic song 👏👏
Aye, minds ye o' times gone by, good times.
